Sama Aluminium supplies cathode current collectors (aluminium foil), a key material for lithium-ion battery (LIB) cathodes, to major battery manufacturers.

With the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market, domestic and international battery manufacturers are actively expanding their overseas production facilities to boost capacity. In response to this trend, Sama Aluminium is planning to expand its rolling capacity by adding two new rolling lines at its Poseung plant in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, to meet the growing demand for LIB aluminium foil. Construction is scheduled to begin on November 22, 2021.

The company plans to invest approximately KRW 80 billion in the expansion project, which includes the installation of two rolling mills, two slitting machines, and related construction. The project is expected to take about two years to complete. Once finished, the number of rolling production lines will increase from four to six, significantly boosting overall capacity.
